On the 18th of March 2017 the 3rd FFC train departed from the Port of Koper to Rotterdam.
Till now in total during the 1st phase of the project there were 7 pilot trains with reefer containers destined for Rotterdam from 3 MED ports: Marseille-Fos, Venice and Koper. These trains checked the logistic, market and operations concept of the railway product in terms of full reefer train. They demonstrated that such solution can achieve competitive results related to transit times, quality and reliability of services as well as environmental sustainably. The key challenges in order to keep such product on the market remain associated to the costs, which are depending on the back-load quantities and represent an essential factor for the service. The project consortium has big expectations for the 2nd phase of the project, when pilot trains will test a new innovative technology solution for cooling reefer containers on their transport route, offering also an improved ICT support.
